Kelchers & Co.. Hong Kong (Letter No.1).
We have recently received a letter dated Dec. 27th., 1917, from
Messrs. Lowe, Bingham & Matthews, Hong Kong, in which these gentlemen
inform us in their capacity of Liquidators of the above-named enemy
firm that the liquidation will produce a subatantial surplus which
may be made available towards payment of the debts of the firm due
by branches other than Hong Kong.
Messre. Lowe add, however, that they have no power to pay such
debts.
We now beg to approach you in regard to this matter on behalf
of Messrs. W. Brandt's Sons & Co., 4, Fenchurch Avenue, London, E.C.3,
Messrs. Fruhling & Goschen, 12, Austin Friars, London, E.C.2. and
ourselves, who are all creditors of Messrs. Kelchers & Co. in rea-
pect of considerable advances made to their houses in China,
(Shanghai, Tientsin and Hankow) and request that the Government of
Hong Kong will favourably consider the desirability of granting
powers to the Liquidators which would enable the latter to apply.
the surplus funds in settlement pro tanto of these claims, par-
ticulars of which have been lodged with them from time to time.
